On 10/14/17 at 8:37AM, Mountain View Dispatch received a call of downed power lines at 2025 California Street in Mountain View. Truck 51, Engine 51 and Rescue 51 arrived on scene, searched the area and located the downed power lines at 1931 California Street and 426 Escuela Ave. Crews also discovered a sparking transformer in the area of 426 Escuela Ave. Arriving Units found smoke and small flames on the roof line of 426 Escuela Ave; a two story 10 unit building within a three building complex.
PG&E arrived on scene within 30 minutes and de-energized the lines. Fire crews were able to access the roof area and safely extinguish the fire. During the firefighting efforts, a total of approximately 25 residents were temporarily evacuated from the apartment and staged in the parking lot of Castro School.
The fire was extinguished with no injuries. One apartment with one adult male resident was impacted by the fire. The adult male's residence was damaged but inhabitable. The resident was not displaced and has elected to stay at the apartment.
