A 17-year-old Mountain View resident has been arrested for attempted murder in connection to a shooting that happened late Sunday night.
No one was injured.
Around 10:50 pm on Oct. 29, Mountain View officers responded to the 7-Eleven, located on the 1900 block of Latham Street, for reports of a shooting that had just occurred. When our officers arrived, we learned that a 17-year-old Mountain View male had gotten into an argument with a man inside the store. The two then exited the store and the argument continued outside.
Once outside, the 17-year-old pulled out a gun, and the man, who was with an adult female and an infant, got into their car and began to drive away from the scene. As they did so, the 17-year-old opened fire on the vehicle. The individuals in the car were not struck by gunfire and were not injured.
Officers immediately began a search of the area and learned that the suspect knew the victim. Officers quickly responded to the suspect’s home nearby, where he was found and detained. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was found inside a room of the home, and the 17-year-old was subsequently arrested.
The suspect was transported to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder. Because of his age, we are not identifying him at this time.
The area surrounding the 7-Eleven was temporarily shut down last night as our teams worked to clear the area and investigate the scene. The area has subsequently reopened.
“Our officers responded quickly and did an excellent job piecing this incident together to arrest the suspect,” said Lt. Michael Canfield. “I am proud of their work.”
