Design Review Consultation (DRC)
Under the authority of the Zoning Administrator, Design Review Consultations (DRC) provide a meeting forum for City staff, applicants, and the public to discuss project design feedback, per Section 36.44.20 of the City Code. DRC meetings are led by the Deputy Zoning Administrator with participation by two consulting professional architects. The role of the DRC meetings are to review and provide design input on the architectural and site design of new development and major improvement projects that are subject to a Planning permit. Typical types of projects discussed at the DRC include applications for new commercial, mixed-use, or multi-family residential development or redevelopment, and projects with major building facade and/or site modifications. Prior to Design Review Consultations, this group was previously a recommending advisory body to the Zoning Administrator and was referred to historically as the "Development Review Committee" (DRC) or "Site Planning and Architectural Review" Committee (SPAR).
Meetings
DRC meetings are typically held the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 2:00 p.m. either online virtually via Zoom or in the following location:

Meeting dates and location are subject to change. The DRC meetings are not subject to the Open Meeting Law, also known as the Brown Act, but best practices of meeting organization and decorum are followed.
At the meeting, the applicant first provides a presentation of their project. Following the presentation, the Deputy Zoning Administrator will allow for comments from the public, which may be limited in time and topic (architectural and site design feedback only). Then, the DRC members ask clarifying questions of the applicant and provide design feedback.
