The City of Mountain View Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was formed to increase the level of civic engagement of youth and to provide the YAC with an opportunity to work directly with the Council Youth Services Committee. The YAC is comprised of middle school and high school students that represent Mountain View teens in local government and have the opportunity to advise adults concerning teen issues.
The general functions of the Youth Advisory Committee include:
- Advise City Council and Staff on youth and teen issues
- Support the Teen Center through the sharing of resources and new program ideas
- Plan fun events and programs for the teen population
Meetings
The Youth Advisory Committee meets twice a month during the school year (August - June) at 4:30 p.m. in the following location:

The Youth Advisory Committee meetings are available only in-person for public participation. Please note, meeting dates and location are subject to change.
Members of the public may provide public comment orally at the meeting or written comment via email at yac@mountainview.gov by 5 p.m. the day before the Youth Advisory Committee meeting.

The Committee consists of fifteen members and additional members-at-large.

The application period for 2024-25 members closed on March 29, 2024. The 2025-26 application period will begin in February 2025.

YAC Accomplishments
- Supported the creation of a Teen Center for middle and high school students
- Instrumental in the creation, design, and programming of the View Teen Center, scheduled to open in Fall 2014
- Received the California Parks and Recreation Society 2009 Youth Development Award for the 2009 Mayor's Youth Conference
- Received the California Parks and Recreation Society 2010 Youth Development Award for the 2010 Summer Outdoor Movie Night Series
- Supported the creation of the Teen Zone in the Mountain View Public Library
- Provide free events to teens including skate park events, teen open mic nights, summer outdoor movie series, and various sports tournaments
- Launched Find Your Fit: Teen Career Day, a career exploration event for teens, in 2022
- Launched the Teen Wellness Retreat, a mental-health conference for teens, in 2022
- Received the California Parks and Recreation Society 2023 Award of Excellence for the Teen Wellness Retreat Event
