Free City Wi-Fi

The City provides free wireless services at the Mountain View Public Library (located at 585 Franklin Ave.) and City Hall (500 Castro St.).

The City is using Ruckus Wireless, which provides some of the newest and fastest wireless equipment available. Using patented “BeamFlex©" technology, users will experience better and faster connections with less interference and less traffic even when using devices in an area that is saturated with wireless clients.

The system adapts to usage and user locations automatically and reconfigures itself to optimize the users experience while online. The system has been designed with security in mind to protect users.

To access the free WiFi network, follow these instructions:

1. Open your device's connection manager
2. Connect to the network name "cmvwifi"
3. When you're connected to the CMV WiFi network, you will have to accept the City’s Terms of
4. Usage by clicking on or tapping the “Accept” Button that pops up
5. You can then open your Internet browser and use as normal

Google Wi-Fi

On February 19, 2014 the City of Mountain View and Google announced a new connectivity plan for residents. Google is providing free, public outdoor Wi-Fi in Mountain View along the Downtown corridor, primarily Castro Street. The new, downtown Wi-Fi service will replace the former citywide Wi-Fi service that Google began dismantling on May 3, 2014. The City also accepted a $500,000 grant from Google to fund technology projects in Mountain View, which the City is using, in part, to provide free Wi-Fi in publicly accessible facilities to reduce the digital divide in Mountain View.

Areas covered by the grant funds include the following:

• Outdoor Wi-Fi at Rengstorff Park
• Indoor Wi-Fi at:
  • Mountain View Public Library
  • Senior Center
  • Community Center
  • Teen Center
