2022 Garage SaleThe 2024 Citywide Garage Sale had an amazing turnout of sellers - over 175!

We welcome your feedback to provide insights about your experience and suggestions to improve next year's event.  We are eager to hear from everyone: sellers, shoppers, and those unable to participate.  We particularly would like feedback on what time of year you would prefer for next year's sale.

The next 2025 Citywide Garage Sale date will be announced here when it is available.

Join hundreds of residents holding garage sales at their homes. This event supports the City's Zero Waste goals by keeping reusable items out of the landfill and conserving natural resources.

Sellers may choose to participate on only one day or both days of the sale. Online and printed address lists will show which day(s) each participating seller is open.

The event is advertised in local and regional newspapers, social media, websites, etc. Shoppers can find garage sale addresses and items for sale on the City's website and on printed maps published the day before the sale.

The Community Yard Sale at Rengstorff Park is no longer being held.

Maps & address list

An online map and address list for the Citywide Garage Sale was made available on Monday, September 9.  In addition, printed copies were available outside the City Hall main entrance (500 Castro St) and at the curb next to the Mountain View Library above-ground parking lot at 585 Franklin Street.

Seller information & resources

Registration: Registration to participate in the Citywide Garage Sale is free. The sale is advertised from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Sellers can choose to have their sale open on just Saturday or Sunday, or both days of the sale.

Address lists and maps: The City publishes a map and address list of participating sales, which will be available the day before the sale both online and for pickup outside City Hall. Shoppers will be able to search the address list by street, neighborhood and day(s) the sale is open. Additional information provided includes identifying multi-family sales, item categories, and "notable" items identified by sellers.

Planning: Plan your sale using these Selling Tips. We encourage you to have your neighbors register for the garage sale or to hold a block sale to attract more shoppers. If you and a neighbor don't have enough items for a sale at each of your homes, just combine them together at one location and register as a multi-family sale.

Signage: Please post signs only on private property with the owner's consent. It is illegal to post signs on City utility poles, street or signal light poles or median strips. The City does not provide sign removal services. If you do post signs, please be sure to keep track of your sign locations, use blue painter's tape to avoid damaging the surface and remove signs promptly when your sale is finished. Be sure that signs do not encroach in the roadway or block the vision of drivers or pedestrians.

Unsold Items: After the sale, unsold items can be donated to local agencies or reuse organizations. Additionally, any unusable items you may find when cleaning out your garage and/or closet for the sale can be recycled or disposed of using the resources below:
