The Code Enforcement Division of the City Attorney’s Office is responsible for enforcement of property maintenance, zoning, and building codes throughout Mountain View. Code enforcement is a responsibility shared by many City departments and, to be effective and efficient, also needs the cooperation of residents and businesses.

The Mountain View City Code includes and incorporates Zoning provisions, and the Uniform Fire, Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.

The Mountain View City Code provisions were enacted by the City Council to maintain a healthy, safe and clean environment, carry out established land use policy and preserve the quality-of-life of our community.

What is the procedure for following up on possible code violations?
City staff responds to code enforcement complaints according to the impact of the violation on the community. Situations that appear to pose a serious risk to health and safety are given top priority; others are pursued in the order in which they are received.
